What is cataract?

Each eye has a lens that is perfectly transparent and forms a picture of visible objects on the retina. This lens does’nt remain transparent and become opaque. This disease of the natural lens is named as cataract. Vision is affected proportionately to the decrease in transparency of the lens. Why does white cataract form?

Natural lenses become opaque due to a variety of reasons, for example:

  • With incraesing age, most people’s lenses degenerate and become opaque.
  • Trauma to the eye leads to cataract.
  • Diabetes and many such diseases opacify the natural lens.
  • Steroids and many other drugs damage the natural lens and cause its opacification.
